Biography: With the dream of becoming an IFBB Professional Figure Athlete , I stepped on stage for the first time in 2007. Little did I know that three competitive seasons and ten shows later, my dream would become reality.
Growing up, I was raised in a football centered home, my dad and both my older and younger brother. Playing sports and lifting weights was a staple in our lives.
I could not wait until I was old enough to workout at the YMCA with the rest of my family. We have photos of us flexing our arms and now, as adults, we still flex for one another! As an active family we not only lifted heavy, but they also ate heavy! All my life I have struggled with my weight and body image. These issued have plagued me my entire life... even at the age of 5 on the t-ball field; I had to make sure I had a bow in my hair! Growing up I played baseball, basketball and anything that would contain my competitive spirit (and showing that I was just as tough as my two brothers!), however, it was cheerleading that stuck with me from third grade until I graduated high school. This too added to my lack of confidence since I was not the 'typical size' of a cheerleader. Although beneficial for my current endeavors, my broad shoulders and long legs were not conducive to cheering in college, and no matter how hard I worked and no matter what titles I received, a 5'7" cheerleader is not on the top of a recruiter's list. So I hung up my pom poms and conformed to the "college" lifestyle. Processed food, alcohol and lack of exercise followed suit and the inevitable happened, I had become a societal stereotype.

In January of 2005, I saw myself in a music video, put together by one of my former college classmates, and was completely faced with a true picture of my physical self: 180-pounds and 30 percent body fat. The person I saw on the screen could not possibly be me! It was at that moment I knew it was time for a complete lifestyle change; I bought a treadmill, a dry erase board, diet log and got to work. At that time, I knew little about diet and exercise but enough to know I had to burn more then I consumed in order to start losing weight. I immediately started educating myself about nutrition and what it would take to maintain muscle, while burning fat. Eight months later I had lost over forty pounds through hard work, a healthier diet and a new outlook on life.

Later that fall, I went to a body building competition to watch one of my friends compete. As the girls lined up on stage something clicked! This was what I wanted to do! At that moment I had an epiphany. I saw myself on stage, in the jeweled suit and clear 4-inch heels, reveling in the stage lights and listening to the onlooker's cheers. Plans were immediately put into action to step on stage. Four months later at my first show my life changed forever, I became a figure competitor.

It was immediately after my first show that I knew I had found my niche. Determined to obtain professional status, I competed at the 2009 Team Universe. This was my third national show, and tenth show competing. Leading up to the show, everything felt perfect and show day, everything fell completely into place. My dream came true and I left the stage a new IFBB pro.

Frank Zane - Bodybuilder

Name:  Frank Zane
Location:  California, USA
Born:  June 28, 1942
Height: 5'9" (1.75 m)
Weight Contest: 185 lb (84 kg)
Off-season: 200 lb (91 kg)

Website:  http://www.frankzane.com/

Zane is a three-time Mr. Olympia (1977 to 1979). His reign represented a shift of emphasis from mass to aesthetics. Zane's proportionate physique featured the second thinnest waistline of all the Mr. Olympias (after Sergio Oliva), with his wide shoulders making for a distinctive V-taper. He stood at 5'9" and had a competition weight of 187-195 pounds when he won Mr Olympia (He weighed over 200 lbs when he competed in the 60s). Zane is one of only three people who have beaten Arnold Schwarzenegger in a bodybuilding contest (1968 Mr. Universe in Miami, FL) and one of the very few Mr. Olympia winners under 200 pounds. Overall, he competed for over 20 years (retiring after the 1983 Mr Olympia contest) and won Mr America, Mr Universe, Mr World and Mr Olympia throughout his illustrious career.
He has written many courses and books about bodybuilding. In 1994, Zane was inducted into the 1st annual Joe Weider Hall of Fame. He received the Arnold Schwarzenegger lifetime achievement award at the 2003 Arnold Classic for his dedication and long-time support of the sport. He was given the nickname "The Chemist" due to his Bachelor of Science degree and, as he puts it: "Back in the day I took a lot of supplements and tons of amino acids. Still do. But back then it was pretty unusual. That's how I got the nickname The Chemist." There was also a perception that his nickname was given because he was very scientific in reaching his peak on the exact day of competition, year after year.

In 1985, Frank and his wife Christine owned and operated Zane Haven in Palm Springs, CA where they conducted one-on-one sessions with clients who wished to possess a symmetrical physique. Today, the Zanes live in San Diego, CA and his learning center is now called Zane Experience.

In 2005, Frank Zane played the IFBB Announcer and worked as the consulting producer in the movie "See Arnold Run." As of 2006, Zane currently runs his own website, appears at seminars and book signings. He still trains with weights at age 68.

In 2011 Frank Zane appeared in the documentary Challenging Impossibility (film) describing the weightlifting odyssey of spiritual teacher and peace advocate Sri Chinmoy. The film was an Official Selection of the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. Frank attended the premier in New York City on April 22, 2011.

social media phenomenon, gaining momentum with every click.

In 2009 Ava was courted by Gaspari Nutrition a major player in the field of sports nutrition and asked

International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB)

The International Federation of BodyBuilders (IFBB) is a competitive bodybuilding organization founded in 1946 by brothers Ben and Joe Weider and is the highest level of competitive bodybuilding in the world. Currently, the IFBB consists of seven different sub-divisions for different competitors (gender or weight), divided into 21 contests throughout the year. The current IFBB season begins with the FLEX Pro Championships on February 19 and concludes with Pro Florida Championships on December 10.
The IFBB is most renowned for the cash prizes awarded to top 5-10 finishers depending on amplitude of the contest, being the sole organization of providing a means of living for competitors. The Mr. Olympia is the highest accolade achievable in the IFBB, giving the title of the current number one bodybuilder in the world. In November 2004, the IFBB congress voted to change the long name of the organization to the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness. The logo and "IFBB" abbreviation remain unchanged.
Until the 1940s the bodybuilding scene was controlled by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). The Weiders decided to form the IFBB after concerns that the AAU was more interested in promoting the Olympic sport of weightlifting than bodybuilding. The IFBB was set up to give "physique athletes" (bodybuilders) center stage. The first IFBB contest was held in 1949 - the IFBB Mr. America.

This angered the AAU, which had held their own AAU Mr. America contest since 1939 and a bitter feud ensued, which resulted in the AAU banning anyone from entering their contests if they had previously competed for the IFBB.

From the 1980s to his death in 2008, IFBB president Ben Weider petitioned the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for inclusion of bodybuilding in the Olympic Games. On January 30, 1998, the IFBB was made a provisional member, and the membership was subsequently made permanent on 1 August 2000. The IFBB unsuccessfully petitioned the Olympic organising committee to demonstrate the sport at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
